Ooohh lalaah

Karl's getting into the whole French lifestyle thing quite well. Here you see him parading around the boardwalk of Hossegor yelling at other kids: "Eeeeeh! Ma maman est plus belle que ta maman!" .... "And my mother wears a polo matching my snazzy new stroller, because she's got style and yours eats snails!" ... "For breakfast!" ....

Next to learn on this vacation are - mixing the perfect pastis, chainsmoking, recognizing soccer teams' jerseys, matching devastatingly foulmouthed comments with recognized jersey's team's performance.

Sandalous!

Karl is extremely busy playing in the sand. Please do not interrupt.

Windy Day

Storm surges can turn the Atlantic into an impressively wild maelstrom. Which is perfect for long beach walks. Karl obviously enjoys being bounced around on Mom's back a lot.

Soleil Et Sable

C'est lovely.

Gone For The Summer

In case you're wondering what's going on: we took Karl to France to teach him important lessons on the art de vivre. Two years ago there was no internets at the house but apparently this has changed so check back for exciting news from Karl's life at la plage.

Bobby Car Age

On our trip to my parents place last weekend Karl was training to get ready for his Bobby Car age. So far he was mostly preoccupied with the horn and let his mother operate all the other features of the car.

Swing King

I told you there was going to be a baby swing picture. And there it is – courtesy of Omi. Thank you!

Applied Sciences

Baby life is all about applied sciences. While the first months are all about biology (how to get yourself from cellclot to small person), Karl's reaching the age now, when physics take over.

Lessons learned so far:

Water-mass contained in sippy cup will be unreachable, when dropped from high chair (tough one).

Loss of balance will result in sudden painful pressure to behind (impact can be softened by wearing diapers).

Sudden gusts of wind can lead to bad hair day (so far still funny).

Baby Stuff

Andrian said I shouldn't write anything inappropriate with this picture. So, okay, I won't. I'll just give you the facts. After a long convalescence Karl was allowed to finally meet other babies again and Petra had the great idea to check out the reopened natural outdoor swimming pool at one of the Isar river arms. While their moms took turns in swimming down the stream, Luisa and Karl hung out in the shade on the blanket and did, well, baby stuff.

Swinging Munich

On my quest to finding a baby swing so that I could show those swinging New Yorker babies that Munich can swing too, we stopped by another playground today. They didn't have one either but Karl was really getting into this motorcycle-like bouncey thingy. Stay tuned for a baby swing picture – sooner or later I will find one.

The Zoo (Finally)

Last year in early summer my sister Carolin together with my niece Thora came to visit and we went to the Munich Zoo, the Tierpark Hellabrunn. Instead of buying single tickets, Andrian went ahead and bought a book of 10 tickets saying that next year he will take his son to the zoo. Yesterday that day had finally come.

I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical whether Karl would get the whole big-and-wild-animal-in-cages-concept since he's still working on understanding the whole human being thing but as it turns out he was really into it. Father and son happily watched monkeys, elephants and kangaroos on that very day some people had been waiting for for quite a long time.

Great Opportunity!

Still to let: three quarters of baby bed. Perfect condition. Call for price.

Therapy

He's looking good, right? But the main actor of this blog has still not fully recovered yet. He is getting better though with the help of all sorts of therapy. Having lived in New York for a while, I figured retail therapy would certainly work, so I got him a baby cell phone as well as his first Brio building block train set thingy. He was only mildly amused. I guess horse power and cell phones don't work for every guy as they keep telling you in Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine.

The only thing that always works is ice cream. Well, at least according to Karl. We told him that we cannot base his whole therapy on ice cream though and this is when he got mad. Understandably so since this week his parents went to the new Jessas ice cream parlor (it belongs to the CafĂ© Maria and Bar Josef imperium) almost every day as part of their therapy for sleep deprivation – the ice cream there is delicious! For now our son Karl still has to rely on the hard, ice cream free drugs from the pharmacy and they seem to be working just fine.

Rocking The House

This is shot from last week when Karl was rocking the house with his buddy Magnus. There's no new pictures to post since our social radius is pretty limited these days. Karl has a bronchitis and of course is not supposed to infect other babies. The accompanying temperature brought out three new teeth on top tough which he's already gnashing, creating a weird and creepy sound.

Day At The Beach

Okay, this might be a little exagerated, because we didn't actually spend the whole day at the new Isar river bank beach, but it sounds really good, right? Since Summer has come back to Bavaria it was way too hot to spend a whole day out so we just went for a late walk and put our feet in the cool river water – and took some pictures. Karl does look like he's in a good mood, but since he's teething big time he has really been miserable these past days and by now totally exhausted. So this is him having fallen asleep while eating lunch.

Being to lazy to cook on this lazy Sunday we went to one of our little neighborhood restaurants, Hey Luigi. Andrian pulled out a secret weapon to keep Karl entertained while waiting for dinner: soap bubbles! I somehow had forgotten about their existence but they do keep your kid occupied for quite a while.
